Rockets Right Back at It Hosting Seattle this Weekend

The Kelowna Rockets will have home-ice advantage when the team hosts the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL Western Conference Championship beginning Friday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

The Rockets host games one and two of the best-of-seven series Friday and Saturday nights in Kelowna.

Kelowna and Seattle met four times in the regular season during the 2015-16 WHL regular season with each team winning both games in its home buildings. The Rockets lost 6-0 and 2-0 in Seattle but beat the Thunderbirds 7-4 and 5-2 in Kelowna.

The Rockets finished the regular season at 48-20-4-0 while Seattle was 45-23-4-0 finshing third in the Western Conference to Kelowna's second place.

The Rockets are coming off a pair of seven game series to advance to its third straight Western Conference Championships, winning each of its first two series in overtime in game seven.

On Tuesday night the Rockets pulled off a late comeback as Justin Kirkland tied the game with just 0.2 seconds remaining in the third before Calvin Thurkauf scored the game winner early in overtime.

In the opening round of the WHL Playoffs, the Rockets needed seven games to beat Kamloops as Tomas Soustal scored the overtime winning goal in that series' deciding game.

Seattle earned wins over Prince George in four straight and Everett in five games to advance to the championship final.

Once the opening two games are held, games three and four will be in Seattle next Tuesday and Wednesday. Game five is slated for Kelowna April 29, game six would be Sunday May 1 in Seattle and a potential game seven would be Tuesday May 3 in Kelowna.
