Rock Cats Have Two Roster Transactions

June 10, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League had two roster moves today involving left-handed hitters.

OF Rene Tosoni, used primarily in New Britain this season as a Designated Hitter, has been placed on the DL with a right shoulder injury. It is expected that the 23-year-old native of British Columbia, Canada will undergo surgery to repair the problem in Minnesota later this week. Tosoni has been a major contributor in New Britain for portions of the last two seasons; in 2009 he was both an Eastern League All-Star and, while representing his native Canada as a member of the World Team at the 2009 Futures Game, named the Game's MVP. A 36th Round pick by Minnesota in the 2005 Draft, Rene appeared in 52 games for the 2010 Rock Cats and departs with a .270 Batting Average and team-leading 24 RBI;

1B Chris Parmelee, 22, has been assigned to the Rock Cats from Ft. Myers in the Florida State League. The Twins' 1st Round Draft selection (20th overall) out of Chino Hills (CA) High School in 2006, the 6'1"/223-pound Parmelee began the year with New Britain, appeared in 28 games, and left for Ft. Myers in early May with 3 HRs and 13 RBI. A 2009 Florida State League All-Star, Parmelee seemed to rediscover his sweet stroke in Ft. Myers as evidenced by his .338 BA and 17 RBI (in 22 games) to go with a .463 Slugging Percentage and .430 OBP.

Both moves are effective immediately with Parmelee scheduled to be in uniform tonight when the Rock Cats play at Richmond, VA.
