FLYING HIGH: The Rochester Red Wings tonight begin a 6-game homestand with the first game of a 4-game series against Empire State (Yankees). Following 4 with the Yankees, the Red Wings will welcome Pawtucket (Red Sox) to town for a brief 2-game set Friday-Saturday before hitting the road for a 2-game trip to Lehigh Valley (Phillies).
a The Red Wings are just 3.5 games out of the IL Wild Card spot and 4.5 games out of the North Division lead.
a The Red Wings tonight begin a stretch of playing 18 of their final 29 games at home.
a All but 4 of Rochester's final 29 games are against International League North Division clubs. The lone exception is a 4-game series vs. Indianapolis (Pirates) August 14-17.
PERSONNEL NEWS: Lefthander Pedro Hernandez, who was acquired by the Twins in the Francisco Liriano trade July 28, is making his Red Wings' debut tonight vs. Empire State. He is the 18th different starter used by Rochester is 2012, matching its total from all of last year.
a Righthander David Bromberg today was transferred from Double-A New Britain for his 2nd stint with the Red Wings. He made 2 starts in his first stint, going 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA (5 ER/8.1 IP).
a The Twins yesterday recalled infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka from Rochester. The switch-hitter had been with the Red Wings all season, batting .245 with a homer and 24 RBI in 84 games.
THIS IS FUN: The Red Wings have won a season-high 7 games in a row and are a season-best 3 games above .500 for the 2nd time, the first since being 5-2 after a 2-1 victory vs. Pawtucket on April 11. A victory tonight would make the Red Wings 4 games above .500 for the first time since May 14, 2009, when they were 18-14 following a 5-4 win vs. Indianapolis.
a The Red Wings' 7-game winning streak is their longest since a 7-game tear June 19-23, 2007. That streak included a pair of doubleheader sweeps June 22 and 23 against Charlotte at Knights Stadium. A victory tonight would give the Red Wings their longest winning streak since an 8-game run June 1-8, 2006.

a The Red Wings are just 23-30 in true road games overall, but they have won 7 straight, 11 of their last 15, and 12 of their last 17 away from Frontier Field.

HOME, HOME ON THE RANGE: The Red Wings tonight return to Frontier Field, where they are 36-26, a record that includes a 4-4 mark as the "road" team against Empire State. The 2011 Red Wings went 32-41 in 73 games, including one as the "road" team against Charlotte.

NO ONE LEFT BEHIND: The Red Wings enter tonight's game against lefthander Justin Thomas having won 8 games in a row with an opposing left-handed starter. The Wings last lost a contest with a southpaw on the hill June 30, when they fell 6-4 to Empire State and its lefty starter Mike O'Connor.
HE'S JUST THE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chris Parmelee today was named International League Player of the Week for the week of July 30-August 5, when he batted .517 (15-for-29) with 3 doubles, 5 homers, and 9 RBI in 6 games.
a The 24-year-old enters tonight's game with a 15-game hitting streak, the longest of his pro career and the longest by a Red Wing since Danny Valencia's 20-gamer April 24-May 16, 2010.
a Parmelee has also recorded an RBI in 10 straight games (16 total), the longest such streak by a Red Wing since at least 2004.
a Parmelee has 12 homers in 40 games with the Red Wings, leading the club despite playing in less than a 3rd of the team's games.
