Robbins Blasts Walk off Winner

July 13, 2013 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release

The Erie SeaWolves snapped a two game losing streak in dramatic fashion as James Robbins' walk off homerun gave Erie a 2-1 victory.

With the game tied at one, Robbins, who struck out twice before facing Harrisburg reliever Ryan Perry, took an inside fastball over the right field wall with one out in the bottom of the ninth. The no doubter was Robbins' fifth homer of the season and gave Perry his second loss on the year.

The SeaWolves and Senators traded blows in the third inning. Harrisburg scored with two outs in the top half of the innings. Ricky Hauge reached on an error by Wade Gaynor and was driven in by Brian Goodwin when the lead off man tripled. Erie responded with a triple of their own when Daniel Fields brought home Jamie Johnson.

The win ensured that Jon Link's gem ended with the starter's second win of the year. Link needed just 99 pitches to work nine innings of three hit ball for Erie and record a season high eight strikeouts. Starting in the fourth, Link retired 17 of his final 18 batters faced. He retired 13 in a row at one point and finished the game by striking out five of six.

The win moves Erie to three and a half games back of Harrisburg in the Western Division race. The SeaWolves will have the chance to split the series with the Senators on Sunday afternoon as Erie's Matt Crouse (4-7, 4.60 ERA) will face Rob Gilliam (3-2, 4.12 ERA) at 1:35 p.m.
