Roanoke Dazzle News Release

ROANOKE, Va., August 13, 2002 – The Roanoke Dazzle and Clear Channel Communications announced today that WGMN/WVGM, the only all-sports station in the Roanoke and Lynchburg radio markets, will return as the exclusive broadcast flagship for the Dazzle’s second National Basketball Development League season.

The contract with “The Game” – 1240 AM in Roanoke, 1320 AM in Lynchburg -- for the 2002-03 season provides the Dazzle with live origination of all 25 regular-season Roanoke home games and any home playoff dates as well. WGMN/WVGM also will carry all Dazzle road broadcasts – originated by NBDL home team radio affiliates – on a live basis.

The Dazzle will open the second NBDL season Friday, November 15 at the Roanoke Civic Center with a 7 p.m. tipoff against the Huntsville Flight.

“We feel that it is a great fit for Dazzle games to be heard once again on ‘The Game,’” said Dazzle Team President Joe Preseren. “It is obviously the top sports station in the region, and we are pleased to remain as part of the station’s all-sports lineup.”

Clear Channel Radio Vice President Chris Clendenen also announced that Greg Roberts, veteran Roanoke sportscaster and host of the “Greg Roberts Live” midweek talk show on “The Game,” will return for a second season as the Dazzle’s radio play-by-play voice.

The Dazzle broadcasts from the Roanoke Civic Center will begin with “The Game” pregame show, 15 minutes prior to scheduled tipoff, and also include a courtside postgame wrapup.

“We are thrilled to partner once again with the NBA and NBDL for Year Two of Roanoke Dazzle basketball,” said Clendenen, Clear Channel Vice President and Market Manager for the company in Roanoke-Lynchburg. “We are looking forward to a very exciting season.”

Roberts, a Virginia Tech alumnus, is a former sports director at WSLS TV and a sideline reporter for ESPN and ESPN2 regional college football telecasts. He has been honored seven times for sports coverage in Virginia by The Associated Press. His “Greg Roberts Live” talk show on “The Game” airs Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 4-6 p.m.

“Greg is a real pro,” Clendenen said. “We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber on our team.” Besides “The Game,” the Clear Channel stations in the Roanoke/Lynchburg market are on the FM dial -- WJJS, WYYD, WROV, WMJR and WJLM. Clear Channel Communications owns and/or operates 1,225 radio stations and 37 television stations in the United States.

The NBDL, based in Greenville, S.C., is the NBAÂ’s minor league. In addition to the NBDL, the NBA and Clear Channel, a leading producer and promoter of live entertainment, have a joint alliance that offers NBDL cities the opportunity to experience world-class live concerts and other entertainment shows.
