ROANOKE, VA., July 29 ? The Roanoke Dazzle will hold annual tryouts for the 2004-05 Star City Squad dance team , the official interactive dance team of the Roanoke Dazzle on Saturday, August 7 and Saturday, September 11.
Tryouts will take place at the Dazzle offices within the Roanoke Civic Center complex. Registration, warm-ups and stretching will begin at 9 a.m., tryouts will begin at 10 a.m. and run through 2 p.m.
The Dazzle is looking for individuals with previous dance or cheer training with basic dance ability, a positive attitude, poise, confidence, and dedication. The Star City Squad not only performs full routines and sidelines during games, but is also responsible for crowd interaction, executing on-court promotions, and encouraging the overall excitement throughout the game. Members will be required to attend all practices and games, make community appearances throughout the season, as well as keep in top physical condition.
Participants will learn a short routine and then will be divided into groups of three to audition before a panel of judges. Each participant will be judged on dance ability, the ability to learn choreography quickly, energy, athletic ability, attitude, and a personal interview.
Required dress for candidates includes comfortable shoes with shorts and a tank top. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age to participate. Candidates who make the first cut will return on Saturday, September 11 after morning try-outs for final cuts.
