RoadRunners Come To Terms With Stevens

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, an affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage, have announced that rookie forward Chris Stevens has agreed to terms on a contract for the 2007-08 ECHL season.

Stevens, 20, tallied 32 goals and 57 points in 71 games in 2006-07 with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League to finish tied for first in goals and fifth overall on the club in scoring. The Dawson Creek, British Columbia native continued his strong play in the postseason recording eight goals and 19 points in 23 games to help the Tigers capture their second WHL Championship in four seasons and advance to the Memorial Cup.

Stevens earned WHL Player of the Week honors for the week of Jan. 8, 2007 after netting two goals and six points in three games helping the Tigers to three consecutive victories. He finished his four-year junior hockey career averaging nearly a point per game with 119 goals, 132 assists, and 251 points in 257 games between Medicine Hat and the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League.

"We are excited to have Chris join our hockey team," said RoadRunners Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Brad Church. "He was a top contributor on a championship team in Medicine Hat and brings with him to Phoenix both a strong work ethic and tremendous character." Church continued, "Having personally watched him excel at the Memorial Cup this past year, he showed me that he can be a factor in big games."

Stevens joins a roster that already includes forward Jeff Kyrzakos and defensemen Reagan Rome, Nick Toneys, and Nathan Schwartzbauer.

The RoadRunners return to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 when they host the Utah Grizzlies to commence their third season in the desert.
