Road Warriors Ground Wings in 9-2 Win

Kalamazoo, MI: The Road Warriors tied a team high with nine goals to secure a victory in a 9-2 game against the Kalamazoo Wings.

Greenville began a three-goal first period with Jordie Johnston scoring his 19th of the year 6:17 into the frame. Johnston intercepted a play on the fore-check and ripped a shot over Joel Martin's blocker. Steve Mele scored his first professional goal finding a rebound opportunity to put Greenville ahead by a 2-0 score. Lee Baldwin and Zach Cohen created the pressure and received the assists. Danny Hobbs extended the lead to a 3-0 score with his ninth of the year just 1:34 later. Hobbs took a rebound to the far post and beat Martin with the assists given to Chad Ziegler and Ryan Flanigan.

Five goals occurred in the second period with Greenville collecting four. Johnston scored his second of the game and 20th of the year with a goal 4:08 into the period. Johnston scored on the man advantage with Bladwin and Hobbs collecting the assists. Alexandre Mallet responded for Kalamazoo with his 10th of the year to bring the score to a 4-1 Greenville lead. Just seconds later Ben Woodly scored his first professional goal with a slap shot that brought the Road Warriors on top 5-1. Mele scored his second of the game and Lowry scored his first as a Road Warrior on the power play to extend the Greenville lead 7-1 through two periods of play.

The Road Warriors were not done with their offensive flash. Martin was pulled in favor of Ryan Daniels to begin the third period. Sean Berkstresser scored on a backhanded shot that hit post and went into the net. Mitch Versteeg fired a one-timer to score the second and last goal of the game for the Wings to bring the game to an 8-2 score. The final goal of the game was scored by Hobbs as he deflected a Woodley shot for his second of the game. Connor Knapp won his fourth game as a Road Warrior with 33 saves. Martin was the Wings goalie who recorded the loss.

The Road Warriors travel to Orlando for a two-game set against the Solar Bears that begins on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. The game can be viewed via America One or by clicking the listen live link on the Road Warriors' homepage.
