Road Warriors Fall to Nailers, Lose 3-1

Wheeling, WV: The Road Warriors quickly found themselves down by three goals and were not able to recover in a 3-1 loss to the Wheeling Nailers.

The Nailers scored three goals in a matter of the first seven minutes to begin the dominating first period. Chris Barton scored his second and third goals of the year in the first 5:03. The first goal of the game came just nine seconds into the powerplay. The Nailers would convert on another special teams opportunity with a shorthanded goal to end the scoring spurt. Cody Chupp scored his sixth goal of the season while on the kill. Greenville was only able to put one shot on net in the first 14 minutes of the game but would add seven more to close out the period.

Neither team was able to tally a goal in the second as Wheeling outshot Greenville in the period 10-4.

The Road Warriors added better opportunities in the third period but were not able to muster sustained pressure in the offensive zone. Greenville prevented being shutout for the first time this season with Bretton Cameron scoring with just 23 second remaining. Jordie Johnston began the play in his own zone and took the puck end to end. He split the defense and fed Cameron in the slot for his fourth goal of the season. Nathan Lieuwen took the loss in net with 31 saves. Peter Delmas got his second win in as many games with 20 saves.
