Peoria Rivermen News Release

Fayetteville, NC - The Peoria Rivermen saw their late 2-1 lead evaporate before falling 3-2 in overtime to the Fayetteville FireAntz Friday night. The loss, Peoria's first on the road since December 5, drops the Rivermen to 26-6-3 with one game remaining in Fayetteville on the current road trip.

The Rivermen started the scoring at 5:04 of the first period when Connor Toomey and Chris Wilson cruised into the Fayetteville zone for a 2-on-1 rush. Toomey's initial shot from the right circle was stopped by the blocker of Fayetteville goalie Parker Van Buskirk and the rebound was fired home by Wilson to make it 1-0. The FireAntz tied the game at 16:17 of the first when Kyle Gibbons fed Josh McQuade on the left post and McQuade flipped a backhand over Peoria goalie Kyle Rank's right pad to make it 1-1.

Peoria took the lead at 4:53 of the second period when Walker Wintoneak pounded the rebound of a Brandon Greenside shot past Van Buskirk to make it 2-1.

The FireAntz tied the game at 16:05 of the third period when a shot from the point by Nicholas Rivait made its way through traffic and just past the outstretched glove of Rank to make it 2-2. After the game went to overtime Fayetteville got a powerplay at 3:00 of the overtime period on a holding call against Dave Pszenyczny. The FireAntz scored with 49 seconds remaining in overtime when Josh McQuade put a shot from the right circle just under the crossbar and over Rank's left shoulder for the 3-2 win.

Rank stopped 25 of 28 shots to take the loss in net for Peoria. The defeat is Rank's first extra-time loss since December 12 vs Mississippi and second in as many decisions since he won seven straight starts from December 18 to January 29.
