RiverKings Win Second Game of Season

Evansville, Ind. - The RiverKings (2-0-0 4Pts) won Saturday night to win their second game of the season against the Evansville Thunderbolts (0-1-1 1Pts) 4-3 in a shootout at the Ford Center. It was another close game between the two teams who saw each other the previous night at the Landers Center.

Evansville would strike first on the power play with a goal from Daniel Vernace in the slot from Myles McCauley and Ryan Patsch. The RiverKings would answer back almost immediately on a Devin Mantha goal from Matt Harrington and Ryan Marcuz. The RiverKings would then take a lead on a goal from Donald Olivieri and Brant Sherwood and Dillan Fox. Jon Scorcia would bring it back tied with just over a minute left in the period from Phil Bronner and John Daniels.

The second period would be a fast paced period with no scoring as Brad Barone and Tyler Parks would get the score even.

Another goal wouldn't happen again until Phil Bronner would score on a puck in the crease after a shot that would result in an assist for Tommy Fiorentino and a secondary assist from Ryan Patsch. The RiverKings would even back up with just over five minutes left in the game on a power play goal from Matt Harrington from Donald Oliveri and Devin Mantha.

The game would go in to overtime with great chances at the end from Sam Higgings with a spin-o-rama to get free for an opportunity and then a quick counter from the Thunderbolts before the period would end to send it to the shootout. Matt Harrington would go first in the shootout for the RiverKings and score, followed by a save from a Barone, Olivieri would then go second for the RiverKings and lose the puck before he could shoot. Cullen Bradshaw would take a quick shot and miss to bring up Luke Sandler who would miss the net. Devin Mantha would then be stopped followed by Barone making a save on his end. It would come down to Todd Hosmer who would be stopped by Parks and then Brad Bourke would come on for the final attempt but could not get it passed Barone as he hit it off the post to give the RiverKings the shootout win.

The RiverKings next game is Friday in Fayetteville against the FireAnts at 6:30p.m.(CT)
