RiverKings on Radio 2010-11

October 8, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- When the Mississippi RiverKings take the ice, beginning this weekend in pre-season action, two old reliables will be back together taking the airwaves to bring fans every exciting moment.

The Central Hockey League franchise and Flinn Broadcasting of Memphis are partnering again this year to bring the action of RiverKings hockey to fans in the Mid-South and around the world.

All 66 regular season games, three preseason games, and all post-season contests, will be aired with Sports 56, WHBQ (560 AM) serving as the Official Flagship Station of the RiverKings.

WHBQ-AM will now have served as the RiverKings' flagship radio station in whole or in part of the past seven consecutive seasons, for a total of eleven of the team's 19 campaigns being on WHBQ-AM.

The other reliable coming back to the airwaves on the legendary signal will be RiverKings Media Coordinator Bob Bakken as play-by-play voice of the RiverKings. This will mark the third straight season the veteran radio broadcaster has described the action of the RiverKings on radio, part of a broadcasting career that has now spanned over three decades.

The majority of the broadcasts will be available on Sports 56; however games that conflict with previous contractual agreements by Sports 56 will be heard on the FM dial at 87.7, The Pig.

All broadcasts will be audio streamed on the station web sites for fans not within range of the broadcast air signal, www.sports56whbq.com and www.radiopig.com.

In addition to the game broadcasts, with air time starting 15 minutes prior to the first faceoff, a weekly RiverKings Roundup program will again be broadcast live on Sports 56 from the Southaven O'Charley's restaurant, on Goodman Road just off I-55. The hour-long program series will start Monday, October 18th at 7 PM, and will continue each Monday night the team is home during the entire season.

Fans are encouraged to come out each Monday evening and watch as Bob Bakken interviews Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski, selected players, and other guests.

RiverKings game broadcasts will again be available this season on the CHL webcasting service called CHL-TV, available from http://chltv.insinc.com/. For the second straight season, CHL fans can sign up to watch their teams play home and away games from their own home computer system or laptop connected to a high-speed internet connection.

NOTE: This weekend's pre-season schedule will not be available on CHL-TV, with the regular season starting this year's service for all CHL teams.

This weekend has a full agenda of activity at the DeSoto Civic Center, from RiverKings Fan Club/Assists for Autism 5K run/walk at 9 AM Saturday morning through Fan Fest in the afternoon, to the first of three preseason contests for the RiverKings. Mississippi hosts Bossier-Shreveport at 6:05 PM Saturday, 3:05 PM on Sunday, and then will travel to play Evansville at 7:05 PM Monday, October 11th.
