December 10, 2012 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) - Mississippi RiverKings
SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings prepare to lend a helping hand to the Chickasaw Council Boy Scouts on December 15, when the "˜Kings take on the Pensacola Ice Flyers at the Landers Center.
For the second time this hockey season, the RiverKings look to collaborate with the Boy Scouts in a ticket fundraiser to help raise money for the organization. The RiverKings will give away a unique RiverKings patch to any scout dressed in uniform and will also host the Chickasaw Council.
The Boy Scouts and the RiverKings share a common goal: to leave a positive influence on the youth of Northwest Mississippi and beyond. Mike Kiel, Development Coordinator of the Chickasaw Council of the Boy Scouts, believes young people need the Boy Scouts now more than ever.
"Children across our nation are faced with so many negative influences on a daily basis," Kiel said. "The programs of the Boy Scouts of America provide our children with a positive alternative, and prepare our youth to be ready to face day-to-day challenges head on."
Like the RiverKings, the Chickasaw Council looks to get children off the couch and involved in the community and in school.
"Scouting, and the nearly 3,000 scouts from the northern counties of Mississippi provide community service to help improve local neighborhoods and parks," Kiel said.
"Scouting has far-reaching effects consistently resulting in better behavior, improved grades, families spending time together, respecting and improving the outdoors, and much more."
