Rockford RiverHawks News Release

LOVES PARK, Ill. - Matt Hagen cleared the bases and swept away the Florence Freedom on Sunday.

Hagen's three-run homer in the seventh inning put the Rockford RiverHawks in front as they beat Florence, 5-2, to complete a three-game series sweep. Brad Dutton also hit a home run for the RiverHawks, in front of 2,064 at Road Ranger Stadium.

The sweep is Rockford's first since Aug. 11-13, 2006, when the RiverHawks took three from visiting Windy City. Sunday's win is their first this year when trailing after six innings - they had been 0-12 when losing entering the seventh inning.

Rockford is on a season-best five-game winning streak. Florence dropped all six games on its two-city trip to Windy City and Rockford.

Florence took a 2-0 lead on a run-scoring wild pitch by Rockford starter Garrett Bauer in the third and a leadoff home run by Beau Blacken in the fourth. Bauer, who got a no-decision, struck out a season-high eight and did not allow a walk for the first time this season.

Florence starter Alain Quijano gave up 12 hits in a complete-game loss. In the seventh, Will Henderson led off with a double down the line in right field, Roberto Valiente singled and Hagen followed with his fourth home run, a towering drive well beyond the left-field fence. Dutton led off the eighth with a first-pitch home run to left-center.

Jason Baca (2-0) pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the win. Mike Marksbury struck out two and retired the side in order in the ninth for his eighth save. Marksbury has recorded the save in each of his last four outings - all during the winning streak. In that span, the Rockford closer has struck out six and pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings.

The RiverHawks are off on Monday. They play 12 of 14 on the road until the all-star break. They play at 6:05 p.m. CDT Tuesday at Kalamazoo. Their next home game is at 12:05 p.m. Monday, July 2 against Windy City.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 15th season.
