Rockford RiverHawks News Release

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks announced Monday they have made a pair of trades to rebuild the team's starting rotation.

The RiverHawks traded pitcher Dane Towery to the Yuma Scorpions of the independent Golden League in exchange for pitcher Chris Langlois. In the other deal, Rockford picked up pitcher Jim Paduch from the Gary Railcats of the independent Northern League in exchange for two players to be named at the end of the 2008 season.

"Both of them we expect to be front-of-the-rotation guys," director of baseball operations Dave Ciarrachi said.

Langlois, a 26-year-old right-hander, has spent both his professional seasons with Yuma. He has a 6-10 career record with a 4.48 earned-run average and a 4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Ciarrachi said he was highly recommended by Yuma manager Mike Marshall, a former Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman and veteran indy ball manager.

"(Langlois) was on a ballclub that didn't perform too well, but everyone that I talked to about his stuff, he was an 88-to-91 guy with a real competitive nature," Ciarrachi said.

Langlois was 2-1 in three appearances this year.

Paduch, a 25-year-old right-hander, went to college at Concordia of Chicago and makes his home in Elmwood Park. Cincinnati picked him in the 12th round of the 2003 draft. Paduch spent four years with the Reds, mostly in Class A, and peaked with an appearance at Triple-A Louisville in 2006. He has a composite 23-25 record, 4.15 ERA and 2-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his five-year career.

Paduch split this year between Gary and Evansville of the Frontier League. He was a combined 3-8 with a 5.00 ERA.

"His reason for wanting to come back here was because of (RiverHawks manager Bob) Koopmann," Ciarrachi said. "He knows Koopmann and thinks he can get him to another level. We also look at him as a guy that can replace (Tanner) Watson in the rotation."

Towery was 3-0 with a 1.77 ERA and a save in 15 relief appearances for the RiverHawks. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 16th season in 2008.
