Riverdragons win third straight, remain atop NBDL standings

FORT MYERS, Fla., December 3- The Columbus Riverdragons defeated the Florida Flame 85-68 Friday night at Germain Arena. Scott Merritt tallied a game high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Columbus? first double of the season. Carl English scored a team high 16 points in the loss for Florida.

The Flame (1-3) have now lost three straight, after winning their inaugural home opener against Roanoke on November 21. Columbus, winners of their last three games, all on the road, improves to 5-1 on the early season.

It was all Columbus in the first quarter, as all five starters scored points during a 14-2 run en route to a 26-15 first quarter lead. The Riverdragons shot 60-percent from the floor and played solid defense, holding the Flame to only 33-percent shooting in the quarter.

Florida continued to struggle in the second quarter, only connecting on five of 18 shooting as Columbus took a 41-31 lead into halftime.

The third and fourth quarters were much the same, as Florida continued to struggle from the floor and Columbus continued to make shots.

All ten players scored points for the Riverdragons contributing to the victory. Ricky Minard (14), Reed Rawlings (11), and Derrick Zimmerman (10) all saw double digit scoring figures for Columbus.

Kirk Haston added 12 points and Kendall Dartez scored 13 for the Flame.

Florida will travel to Huntsville for their first road test of the season next Saturday, December 11. Columbus begins their five game home stand as the play host to the Roanoke Dazzle on Sunday.
