February 14, 2004 - NBA G League (G League)
Asheville Altitude News Release

ASHEVILLE, N.C., Feb. 14 - Intensity was the key for the Columbus Riverdragons as they outplayed the Asheville Altitude for three quarters to earn a 92-77 victory at the Asheville Civic Center Saturday night. Adam Harrington and Erron Maxey shared the load for Columbus, lighting Asheville up for 18 points apiece.

Asheville started the game with an 8-0 burst and led by as much as 12 points in the first quarter, but six games in eight days finally caught up with the team in the second quarter as Columbus outscored them 26-14 to head into the locker room with a 43-38 halftime lead.

The Riverdragons continued their intensity throughout the rest of the contest, holding the Altitude, who leads the league in scoring with 101 points per game, to just 39 points on 13-38 shooting in the second half. Meanwhile Columbus was sizzling from three-point range, connecting on 50% of their long-distance attempts, including Harrington who was 3-for-5 from three-point range, while Asheville shot a dismal 9.1% (1-11) from the arc. The Riverdragons stayed busy down low as well, outscoring the Altitude 44-20 in the paint and out-rebounding them by a margin of 50-to-38.

"They were just more aggressive," said Asheville Player of the Game Kris Lang. "We like to think that the number of games we’ve played in the last week didn’t have an effect on us, but obviously it showed up late."

Kris Lang tallied a double-double for the Altitude, scoring 12 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Asheville’s leading scorer Desmond Penigar was held to just 12 points on 6-of-18 shooting, in addition to nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Greg Stevenson and Kareem Reid were the only other Asheville players to reach double-figures in scoring with 10 points each.

For the Riverdragons, Terence Morris contributed 15 points and blocked three shots while Derrick Zimmerman wrestled down a game-high 14 rebounds and chipped in eight points. Kevin Lyde posted only eight points, but made his presence known in the paint, blocking three shots and grabbing nine rebounds.

The Altitude will try to regain their momentum as they travel to Huntsville to face the Flight Friday, Feb. 20. Columbus will return home to host the Fayetteville Patriots on Monday, Feb. 16, and try for their third straight win.
