Charleston RiverDogs News Release

AUGUSTA, GA - Charleston RiverDogs starting pitcher Dan Camarena (1-3) faced the minimum through six innings of work to earn his first win of the season Thursday night as the RiverDogs edged the Augusta GreenJackets 4-1 at Lake Olmstead Stadium in South Atlantic League action.

With the victory, the RiverDogs get back to the .500 mark at 7-7 in the second half. Overall the RiverDogs record sits at 46-36. With the loss, Augusta drops to 8-6 in the second half and 46-37 overall.

Charleston pitching was on display Wednesday evening beginning with starter Dan Camarena who got his well deserved first win of the season in his 17thappearance of the season. Camarena allowed just one walk in his six innings and erased that batter by catching him stealing second to face the minimum.

The lefty was relieved by former South Carolina Gamecock Tyler Webb. Webb went two innings and allowed three hits while striking out three. Another lefty James Pazos came in to close the game out in the ninth and got one out while allowing a run on two hits before the rain came.

Offensively for the RiverDogs, they struck for two runs in the second inning. With one out, Angelo Gumbs hit his second homer of the season as a RiverDog to put Charleston up 1-0. Danny Oh singled following the homer and came around to score the second run of the game on a RBI double by Reymond Nunez.

Charleston's third run came across in the sixth inning following a leadoff single by Angelo Gumbs. Gumbs stole second and came around to score following a pair of flyouts. Reymond Nunez was credited with a sac fly RBI that scored Nunez. The fourth and final run for the RiverDogs came in the top of the ninth when Kelvin DeLeon scored from third on a sac fly by leadoff batter Jake Cave. Cave finished his evening 1-for-5 in the leadoff spot with a double, a stolen base and an RBI.

Gumbs finished his evening 2-for-4 with a single, homer, a stolen base and a RBI. While Reymond Nunez finished his evening 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI's to help lead the charge for the Charleston.

Augusta received a fantastic start from their starter Joan Gregorio (4-2) who took the tough luck loss. Gregorio, who struggled in his last two outings, lasted 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits and struckout six. Gregorio was relieved by lefty Steven Okert who closed the game out and allowed just one run on no hits and a pair of walks.

Offensively for the GreenJackets, they mustered just one run on five hits. The lone run for Augusta came in the bottom of the ninth inning. After a groundout by Jesus Galindo, Andrew Cain would come to the plate and triple to left center. Then the rains came. Matt Duffy stepped to the plate and had an RBI single scoring Cain for Augusta's lone run of the night. With Trevor Brown at the plate, the game was called due to rain.

Game two of this four game series against the GreenJackets is scheduled for 7:05pm Friday at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Georgia. Charleston sends RHP Cesar Vargas (2-3, 3.42 ERA) to the mound as Augusta counters with LHP Matt Lujan (2-0, 3.64 ERA).
