Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs make their second-half home debut Thursday, June 28, and remain in town until July 3 after they wrap up a pair of games with the Savannah Sand Gnats and a four-game series with the Rome Braves.

The RiverDogs will ring in the start of the second half at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park with a string of promotions highlighted by a day-early Independence Day celebration to send the team back out on the road.

Throughout the homestand, the RiverDogs players will be wearing special arm bands on their jerseys and Charleston Fire Department baseball caps as a tribute to the victim firefighters of June 18, and the RiverDogs staff will collect money in firefighter boots to go to the families of the victims. The RiverDogs have also pledged to donate $100 to the Fireman's Fund for every home run the team hits at Riley Park during the season's second half.

Thirsty Thursday, presented by Wild Wing Café and 95 SX, will kick off the homestand with $1 drink specials. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Friday, June 29, marks the conclusion of the brief Savannah series and is another Friday Night Fireworks sponsored by Cricket Communications and Y102.5 FM. The theme of "Is This Heaven?... No, It's Mayberry!" will explain the appearance of Barney Fife, Gomer Pyle and other look-alikes from The Andy Griffith Show. Local Rubix Cube wiz Joshua Satterfield will showcase his talents, which have earned him a No. 303 world ranking, on the dugout roof between innings. Start time for the game is 7:05 p.m.

Saturday, June 30, consists of a 30-inch "left-handed bat" giveaway presented by Pierce, Herns, Sloan and McLeod and WCBD-TV2. It also marks the eighth annual "Kindness Beats Blindness" RP Auction. The first 1,000 fans to click the turnstiles will receive a baseball bat, and Margaritaville will host a silent auction with all proceeds going to the Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) Storm Eye Institute. The game - the first of the Rome series - begins at 7:05 p.m. and will be followed by a live auction.

With a 4:05 p.m. start time for Sunday, July 1's game, families are encouraged to arrive an hour early for Family Sunday festivities. Pregame family catch will be held on the field along with pregame pony rides. Afterwards, the players will stick around to sign autographs, as kids get to meet the pros and run the bases. Family Sunday is brought to you by Charleston County Parks and Recreation, The Charleston IMAX Theatre and 107.5 Cat Country.

Monday, July 2, is another 7:05 p.m. start and a Dogs with a Cause Night featuring Invest in Children, presented by Star 99.7 FM. Before the action begins, a pregame Stomp Show on the dugouts will help energize Riley Park.

A special 6:05 p.m. first pitch for Tuesday's game will give the RiverDogs just enough time to squeeze in all the extra festivities as part of their Independence Day celebration. It's Two for Tuesday plus the biggest postgame fireworks show all year, presented by Blue Moon, the South Carolina Education Lottery and Clear Channel Communications. Fans get two-for-one pricing on general admission (tickets are $2 extra), and the SCEL will draw second-chance winners at the conclusion of the game. Special Independence Day activities include a Hula Hoop challenge, an apple pie-eating contest and bobbing for apples. RiverDogs manager Torre Tyson will even put on the Sumo wrestling gear as he takes a break from his third-base coaching duties. Seats are selling fast for the Tuesday, July 3 game, and the RiverDogs encourage fans to purchase their tickets as early as possible.

On July 4, the RiverDogs head for Columbus to take on the Catfish, but they'll return to The Joe July 7 for another series with Savannah.
