Richmond RiverDogs News Release


The Richmond RiverDogs are now 9-8-1 after going 1-3 last week. The ‘Dogs are fourth in the Eastern Division, three points behind third place Elmira with four games in hand. Richmond plays three games in three nights this week. The ‘Dogs are home Friday and Sunday this week.

Friday, December 3 vs. Danbury 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The fifth of 17 meetings and the second of eight at home. Richmond is 2-2 vs. the Trashers, 1-0 at the Coliseum. David Hymovitz and Francis Belanger have five points vs. Trashers. Brad Wingfield has four points vs. the ‘Dogs. Clubs have combined for four shorthanded goals in the series.

Saturday, December 4 @ Elmira 7:30 PM

GAME NOTES: The seventh of 17 meetings and the fourth of nine in Elmira. ‘Dogs are 3-3 vs. the Jackals, 1-2 at Elmira. Three ‘Dogs have six points vs. the Jackals. Greg Koehler has 14 points vs. the ‘Dogs. Elmira is 12-38 (31.6) on the power play vs. the ‘Dogs. 11 of those have come in the three Elmira wins.

Sunday, December 5 vs. Kalamazoo 5:05 PM GAME NOTES: The first of four meetings, the first of two at home. Richmond was 0-5 vs. Kalamazoo last season, 0-2 at home. The ‘Dogs are 2-0-1 vs. the Central Division. The Wings are 1-1 vs. the East. Kalamazoo has allowed the fewest goals (39) in the UHL.

Wednesday, November 24 @ Adirondack LOSS 3-1

GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs fell behind 2-0 in the first period and never recovered. Mark Langdon scored the ‘Dogs goal. Sylvain Cloutier had a goal and an assist for the Frostbite. Adirondack held the ‘Dogs to just 23 shots on goal while winning their fifth game of their last six.

Friday, November 26 @ Danbury LOSS 4-2 GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs lost in regulation for the first time this season when scoring first. The ‘Dogs had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but Danbury erupted for three third period goals. Doug Christiansen had a “Gordie Howe” hat trick for the Trashers, who out-shot the ‘Dogs 45-35.

Saturday, November 27 vs. Elmira LOSS 9-2

GAME NOTES: The Jackals blew a close game open with a four goal second period. Elmira went 5-10 on the power play. Four Jackals scored two goals each: Greg Koehler, Jason Sessa, Eddy Lowe, and Corey Foster. The ‘Dogs had 63 PIM to Elmira’s 11.

Sunday, November 28 vs. Elmira WIN 4-1 GAME NOTES: The ‘Dogs erupted for a four goal third period to snap a three game loosing streak. Richmond scored two goals 14 seconds apart early in the third to erase a 1-0 Jackals lead. Luch Nasato had a goal and assist. The ‘Dogs held the Jackals to just 18 shots.

DOG BITES: The 'Dogs snapped their first three game loosing streak of the season with the win over Elmira Sunday. Richmond held the Jackals to a season low 18 shots on goal. The 'Dogs were six for six on the penalty kill Sunday after allowing five power play goals Saturday. Kyle Sheen and Ryan Prentice have points in three straight games. Sheen’s goal Saturday in Elmira was his first as a pro. The 'Dogs are 3-4 in a stretch of nine straight games vs. the Eastern Division. Richmond still has at least two games in hand on the rest of the East. David Hymovitz five game scoring streak ended Wednesday. Richmond out-shot the Jackals by nine Sunday. The 'Dogs had been out-shot in six straight games. The nine goals against Saturday in Elmira is a club record. The 'Dogs are 0 for their last 13 on the power play. The 'Dogs have held opponents to two or fewer goals in their last four wins. They have allowed 30 goals in their last four losses. The ‘Dogs added Sheen (in a trade from Kalamazoo for draft picks) and rookie defenseman Matt Suderman (free agent) last week. Derek Schutz came off the 7-Day IR and the ‘Dogs waived defensemen Anthony DiPalma and Michal Pscheidt. After going 6-0-1 in the first seven games in which the ‘Dogs scored first, Richmond has lost two straight when scoring the first goal.
