Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC -Kyle Holder launched his first career home run to give the Charleston RiverDogs an early lead, but two big innings from Greenville would put the game out of reach as the RiverDogs dropped their third in a row, an 8-3 final to open up a road trip and fall to a season-low five games below .500 in the second half at Fluor Field on Thursday night.

With the loss, the RiverDogs (63-53, 21-26) now sit in fifth place in the division, 8.5 games back of first-place Augusta in the second half. Holder's first inning home run to right highlighted a 2-for-3 day at the plate for the RiverDogs shortstop and gave Charleston a 1-0 advantage. The Yankee's supplemental first round pick in 2015 also doubled and drew a walk to reach in three of his four trips.

After Holder's milestone homer, Greenville tied the game up at one apiece in the second inning. After Kyri Washington was hit by a pitch, Trenton Kemp doubled two batters later to pull the Drive even.

RiverDogs ace Christian Morris (7-4, 3.12) struggled in his second consecutive start, giving up a three-run inning in the fourth before exiting without recording an out in the fifth. The righty yielded a season-high five runs in his second shortest outing of the year while collecting two strikeouts to take the loss.

In the fourth, the Drive collected three straight singles with one out before Kemp clubbed a triple to straightaway center to clear the bases and push Greenville out to their first lead, 4-1, with one swing of the bat.

In the fifth, center fielder Luis Alexander Basabe doubled and Tate Matheny was hit by a pitch before first baseman Josh Ockimey singled home a run off the Mini Monster in left to make it 5-1 ballgame and chase Morris. The Drive added three more in the inning on a two RBI triple by Washington and a double by Austin Rei to make it 8-1 Greenville.

Charleston got runs back in the seventh and eighth with Audie Afenir and Alex Palma each collecting RBIs.
