July 4, 2013 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs are once again proud to partner with their parent organization, the New York Yankees and locally with Lucey Mortgage for the HOPE Week Initiative. The initiative runs from July 9-13, and RiverDogs players, coaches and front office staff will make appearances throughout the Lowcountry during the five-day outreach.

This will be the fifth year in which the 27-time World Series Champions Yankees have held their HOPE Week. HOPE is the acronym for "Helping Others Persevere and Excel," and this will be the second time that the RiverDogs will bring the concept to Charleston.

Charleston RiverDogs' 2013 HOPE Week is presented by Lucey Mortgage. Contributing sponsors and facilitating institutions that are involved include Charleston Cotton Exchange, Carolina Ice Palace, MUSC, North Charleston Coliseum, Fear No Easel, Raising Canes and Piggly Wiggly.

"We are excited about the opportunity to partner once again with the New York Yankees for such a fantastic cause," said RiverDogs Director of Community Relations Lauren Allio. "It is a great way for us to continue to be active in the community and to recognize some truly amazing people."

"This initiative in which we're partnering with the Yankees has been part of our makeup for several years as we have hosted ‘Dogs With A Cause' at every Monday home game and the HOPE Initiative takes it to another level," said General Manager Dave Echols. "Part of our ‘Be Your Own Fan' initiative stems from our being very active in our community, and HOPE Week actively involves the players in a way that our fans will certainly enjoy."

The RiverDogs will be participating in events every day from July 9-13 to garner awareness for highlighted causes, individuals and organizations. In addition, every day over the five-day period, a different non-profit organization and/or family will receive an once-in-a-lifetime experience of interaction with RiverDogs players and an evening of fun at a RiverDogs game.

The RiverDogs and all of the Yankees' affiliates received a citation from the President's Volunteer Service Award for last year's HOPE Week efforts. To kick off HOPE Week 2013, on Tuesday, July 9th, the ballclub will invite all 2012 HOPE Week honorees to The Joe for special on-field recognition.

The schedule includes:

- Tuesday, July 9: American Lung Association - www.ClimbCharleston.org

o Each year the American Lung Association hosts the "Fight for Air Climb" fundraising event at the North Charleston Coliseum, which challenges participants to run the 1,566 stairs of the Coliseum. The RiverDogs are hosting a "trial run" of The Climb at the North Charleston Coliseum in hopes of increasing awareness, participation and fundraising efforts for ALA's Climb for Air on July 20th.

- Wednesday, July 10: Lowcountry Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (LEAP) - www.leapinsc.org

o The RiverDogs will visit LEAP's Bugby Plantation on Wadmalaw Island for a meet and greet with their volunteers and therapy horses; as well as observe first-hand the effectiveness of equine-assisted psychotherapy.

- Thursday, July 11: American Cancer Society/Hope Lodge - www.cancer.org

o The RiverDogs will surprise one of the American Cancer Society's superstar volunteers, a thyroid cancer survivor and a former resident of the Hope Lodge in New York City. She is an avid painter, and the ballclub will take her to paint the famed Folly Beach Boat.

- Friday, July 12: Family Corps/Parents Anonymous - www.paofsc.org

o The RiverDogs will honor several foster parents and their foster kids by treating them to a day at the Carolina Ice Palace with lunch provided by Raising Cane's.

- Saturday, July 13: Dragon Boat Charleston - www.dragonboatcharleston.org

o Dragon Boat Charleston was founded in 2003 with the mission to promote physical and mental wellness among cancer survivors and their support systems through dragon boating. The majority of the Dragon Boats members are either currently receiving radiation/cancer treatments or are cancer survivors. On Saturday morning, the RiverDogs players will join them for their weekly practice session at Brittlebank Park.
