(Burlington-IA) - Alexi Rivera homered for the third straight game, helping the Burlington Bees (44-50) beat the Lansing Lugnuts (51-43), 7-5, on Sunday afternoon at Community Field.
Just the like the game prior, Lansing opened the scoring. A double steal gave the Lugnuts the lead when John La Prise scored from third, giving Lansing a 1-0 advantage. Carl Wise doubled the lead by doubling into left center, scoring Juan Kelly, upping the lead to 2-0.
Michael Hermosillo opened the bottom of the first inning by getting hit by a pitch. After Matt Thaiss walked, Brendon Sanger singled into right, scoring both Hermosillo and Thaiss, tying the game at two.
After Juan Kelly blasted a two run homer to left, the Bees came back to tie the game again in the bottom of the third inning. Michael Hermosillo singled and then stole second base. Matt Thaiss pulled the Bees to within a run with a double to left. Alexi Rivera tied the game with two outs, lining a RBI single to right.
Lansing took the lead back in the sixth but the Bees powered back in the eighth. Jordan Zimmerman tripled to right center, and then scored on a Brendon Sanger single to right, tying the game at five. Alexi Rivera then smashed a two run home run to right, giving the Bees a 7-5 lead.
Sam Holland (3) came on from the bullpen and worked a scoreless ninth, earning the save. Eric Karch (1-4) earned the win for the Bees while Josh DeGraaf (5-6) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Lugnuts finish the series on Monday night at 6:30 at Community Field. Jaime Barria makes the start for the Bees against Jon Harris for Lansing.
