River Cats Top Aces, 12-4

April 22, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev.-David Winfree collected two hits and drove in two runs for the Aces Sunday afternoon, but five Sacramento home runs pushed the River Cats to a 12-4 victory over Reno at Aces Ballpark.

The River Cats jumped on the board early with three runs in the first and never trailed. Chris Carter led Sacramento with three home runs and five RBIs, while cleanup hitter Brandon Moss homered twice and scored three runs. The Aces carved an early deficit down to one after three innings, but the River Cats answered with eight runs over the fifth-through-eighth innings to cruise to the win.

Charles Brewer (0-1), who was promoted to Reno earlier in the day, took the loss in his Triple-A debut, surrendering six runs-five earned-on 10 hits over 5.0 innings of work. Brewer walked two and struck out two. After his exit, three Aces relievers combined to allow six runs-four earned-over the game's final four frames.

The win went to Sacramento starter Bruce Billings (1-0), who scattered three runs-one earned-on five hits over 5.0 innings of work. Billings struck out five and didn't walk a batter.

At the dish for Reno, Winfree and Ryan Wheeler registered Reno's two multi-hit efforts. Randy Ruiz singled in the second inning to stretch his hitting streak to eight games.

The Aces and River Cats will connect again on Monday night at Aces Ballpark.
