Sacramento River Cats News Release

LAS VEGAS - A two-homer night by catcher Luke Montz was not enough Thursday evening, as Sacramento fell to the Las Vegas 51s at Cashman Field, 10-6.

Both of Montz's long balls were two-run shots, but came with the River Cats already trailing in the game. The 51s jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on Sacramento, which proved to be too much for the River Cats to overcome, as they fell for the second-straight night after starting the road trip 5-0. Daric Barton also homered for Sacramento, his first of the season, but five River Cats errors were Sacramento's downfall in the penultimate game of the club's first road trip of the season.

Sonny Gray (1-1) was on the losing end Thursday, surrendering six runs-four earned-in five innings. Gray struck out five and walked two in the losing effort.

51s starter Darin Gorski (1-1) earned his first win of the season, holding the River Cats offense to just three runs in 5.2 innings of work.

In addition to the three home runs, Grant Green had another two-hit game Thursday-his third in as many nights-raising his average to .304 after coming into this series at just .236 on the season. Stephen Vogt also chipped in with two hits, maintaining his league-best .500 batting average.

Sacramento and Las Vegas complete the series Friday night at Cashman Field, when lefty Andrew Werner (1-2, 10.91 ERA) and 51s ace right-hander Zack Wheeler (0-1, 3.86 ERA) square off for the second time this season. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.

The River Cats return home on Saturday, April 20, for Sutter Health Fierworks Saturday, which opens an eight-game homestand against the Reno Aces and Salt Lake Bees.
