River Cats Drop Game Two to Aces, 10-8

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.. - Daric Barton had three hits and drove in three runs, but the River Cats fell to the visiting Reno Aces in a three-hour, 54-minute game that saw 368 pitches thrown on Sunday night at Raley Field.

Reno hit the ground running, plating four in the top of a first inning that was highlighted by a two-run double from Aces right fielder Brad Snyder. After Reno extended its lead to six in the top of the fourth, the River Cats got on the board scoring twice in the bottom half-once on a Scott Moore RBI double and again on a Tyler Ladendorf bunt single.

One inning later, the River Cats took the lead, plating five runs on five hits. The Cats batted around in the inning, including a run-scoring double by Stephen Vogt, an RBI single from Michael Choice, a two-run double by Barton and a run-scoring single from Jemile Weeks.

In the following frame, the Aces went ahead for the final time, plating three runs. Both teams scored once more before things were said and done, but the River Cats ultimately lost, 10-8.

Barton finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Moore went 3-for-5 with one run driven in. River Cats catcher Stephen Vogt went 2-for-5, moving his batting average on the season to .518. Adam Rosales made his first Triple-A rehab appearance, finishing 1-for-5 with a run, a walk and a stolen base.

Sacramento starter Bruce Billings (0-1) took a no-decision, giving up four earned in three innings. Right-handed pitcher James Simmons (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up four runs of his own in 1.2 innings of relief. The win went to Aces reliever Garrett Mock (2-0), who gave up one run in 1.1 innings.

Game three of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field on Throwback Monday as River Cats left-handed pitcher Justin Thomas (0-1, 3.68 ERA) starts opposite Aces righty Charles Brewer (0-1, 7.24 ERA).
