Sacramento River Cats News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The River Cats exploded for 19 hits-including four from Jemile Weeks-in Monday night's 14-6 defeat of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at Security Service Field.
The Sky Sox scored once in the bottom of the first, but the River Cats unleashed a six-run third inning that was highlighted by back-to-back home runs from Michael Taylor and Scott Moore-the 11th of the season for each slugger. Sacramento didn't stop there, scoring three runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the ninth en route to their 14-6 victory over the Sky Sox.
Weeks reached base five times, going 4-for-5 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Taylor was a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, a double and a home run, while Michael Choice went 3-for-6 with two runs, two RBI and a double. Hiro Nakajima, Andy Parrino and Moore each collected two hits, and every River Cats position player hit safely at least once.
Arnold Leon earned his first win of the season, surrendering four earned runs on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts in five innings of work. Pedro Figueroa, Darren Byrd and Paul Smyth combined for four innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and eight strikeouts with no walks.
The loss was charged to Aaron Cook, who falls to 0-4 with a 6.89 ERA on the year. The former big league veteran gave up nine hits and six runs-two earned-on nine hits and zero walks with three strikeouts. The Sky Sox had both Troy Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler on rehab with the former going 1-for-2 with a run scored, and the latter going 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout.
The River Cats and Sky Sox return to Security Service Field on Tuesday night when A's prospect Sonny Gray (8-5, 2.81 ERA) starts opposite southpaw Jeff Francis (0-2, 6.62 ERA) at 6:05 p.m.
The Cats travel home to Raley Field on Thursday, July 11 at 7:05 p.m. for a four-game homestand during which three bobbleheads-Eric Hinske, Mark Ellis and Eric Byrnes-will be given away.
