River Cats Bested by T-Pads, 4-2
June 10, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Sacramento River Cats News Release
TUCSON, Ariz. - Outfielder Shane Peterson put Sacramento ahead 2-0 with a two-run single in the second inning, but the Cats could not complete the four-game sweep as Tucson came back to win by a score of 4-2 on Sunday evening at Kino Stadium.
After a scoreless first, Michael Choice led off the second with a single up the middle. Stephen Vogt lined out and Luke Montz struck out swinging before Daric Barton doubled to right-center field, putting two men in scoring position. Michael Taylor drew a walk to load the bases for Peterson, who singled to right-center, bringing Choice and Barton home to put the River Cats ahead 2-0 after two.
The T-Pads cut the lead in half in the third when Logan Forsythe homered down the right-field line. The Padres took the lead in the fifth when Jonathan Galvez doubled-home Mike Wilson and Cody Decker. They then tacked on their fourth and final run with Forsythe's second home run of the evening-a seventh-inning leadoff shot, giving Tucson its 4-2 victory.
Peterson paced the Cats offensively, going 1-for-4 with both of the team's RBIs. Choice and Barton were the only River Cats to finish with multiple hits as each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Lefty Justin Thomas (3-4) suffered the loss, relinquishing three runs, six hits and four walks with five strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Reliever Pedro Figueroa allowed one earned in 1.2 innings, while Paul Smyth and Dan Otero combined for 1.2 shutout innings of relief.
The win was credited to Sean O'Sullivan (5-3), who held Sacramento to two earned on seven hits in 6.1 innings. The save went to Colt Hynes, who struck out three in two scoreless innings, while Forsythe finished 2-for-4 with two solo homers.
Sacramento now boards a plane for Reno, opening a four-game set when righty Travis Banwart (3-2, 4.70 ERA) takes on Aces right-hander Chase Anderson (3-6, 5.49 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. on Monday night at Aces Ballpark.
The River Cats return home Friday, June 14, for a four-game set against Tacoma, featuring a pair of fireworks shows and the annual Father's Day Baseball and BBQ event at Raley Field, set for Sunday, June 16.
