River Cats Back in Rhythm with 4-2 Victory over Redbirds

Sacramento River Cats News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The Sacramento River Cats (15-23) have returned to their old hitting habits on the road this season as they took game two against the Memphis Red Birds (14-20). Though the Redbirds were the first on the board, two solo home runs by Jarrett Parker set the tone for the rest of the contest.

Unlike the team's last outing behind lefty Ty Blach, the River Cats were able to give him the run support needed for the win. Leading the offense was Jarrett Parker in his second game back with Sacramento. He contributed three hits and two RBI and finished 3-for-4 on the day.

After hitting his 100th career home run last night versus Memphis, he added two more solo home runs to his count. Both homers came off of right-hander Deck McGuire. Parker now leads the Pacific Coast League with twelve home runs this season. Twelve of Parker's 26 hits have been home runs and the Giant's number 18 prospect is now hitting a home run every nine at bats.

Blach held up his end of the deal today going six strong innings on the mound. He allowed just one run on four hits while walking one and striking out five. He threw 93 pitches in the outing, 65 for strikes. The win puts his record at 5-3 and he is now tied with Zach Lee of Oklahoma City for the most wins in the league.

Manager Jose Alguacil continued to make use of the bullpen, bringing out Alex Torres in the seventh for his sixth. He allowed no runs and no hits in his two innings while walking one and striking out two. Braulio Lara took over in the ninth to close out the game. Though a quick scare came from a double by Nick Martini to score Jonathon Rodriguez, Lara was able to save the game and the win.

Being on the road appears to have the bats rolling for the River Cats again. On their last road trip, the team racked up nine 10+ hit games out of the twelve played. On the other hand, while home versus Las Vegas and Reno, they managed only one 10+ game out of eight.

The team will seek to keep the hits coming behind right-hander Chris Stratton (4-3, 4.67) who will take the mound for the River against Redbirds righty Thomas Lee (1-3, 6.38) in the third game of the series. First pitch is set for an early 9:05 a.m. (PT). The game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air at ESPN 1320 at 7 p.m. (PT).
