Sacramento River Cats News Release

Fresno, CA - After a rough start to the five-game set, the Sacramento River Cats (63-70) made amends for the their one-run loss last night by rolling the Fresno Grizzlies (68-64) in a 12-10 ballgame. They took the lead early before holding on when the bullpen fell apart late. However, a big night from veteran Travis Ishikawa and an unrelenting offense was enough to take the victory.

Ishikawa got the scoring started after being hit by a pitch in the first to force in the first run of the game. In the next inning, Sacramento continued to take advantage of a rough start from Fresno's Eury De La Rosa. Tony Sanchez got the big five-run second started with a double to drive in Ruben Tejada. Jarrett Parker then drew a walk with the bases loaded for another run. A single, fielding error, and sacrifice fly later, the River Cats had driven the score up 6-0.

Mac Williamson added on with a two run blast in the third inning for his first home run since beginning his rehab assignment with Sacramento. He finished 2-for-5 on the night with three runs and two RBI. He was also able to play all nine innings in left field. The other long ball came from none other than Austin Slater, who has now hit six home runs in his last six games.

In stark contrast to his four-strikeout contest as designated hitter last night, Ishikawa played offensive hero tonight. He drove in four tonight, for the second time this season, including three that came with two out. The lefty entered tonight hitting .444 with the bases loaded and .344 overall with runners in scoring position. He is now hitting .260 on the year with the club.

Behind the lively lineup was a solid outing from the mound. Joan Gregorio allowed four runs on seven hits across six innings of work with two walks and four strikeouts. The first three runs for Fresno all came by way of solo shots, bringing Gregorio's tally of home runs allowed with Sacramento this season to twelve. The 6'7" righty, who has struggled with his command as of late, threw 86 pitches, 53 for strikes, tonight (62%) before handing the ball over to the bullpen.

Vin Mazzaro came in for two innings of one-run relief, giving up two hits with two walks and a strikeout. Skipper Jose Alguacil then looked to Jean Machi to finish out the game, which had stretched more than three hours from the first pitch. However, an off night for the closer allowed five runs (two earned) to score and made it a 12-10 game with two outs in the ninth. Tyler Rogers was then able to induce a ground ball straight back to his feet for the final out to pick up his first Triple-A save.

With the series evened up, Sacramento sends southpaw Ty Blach (13-7, 3.58) to the hill tomorrow in search of the series lead. He faces off against Grizzlies' right-hander David Paulino (0-1, 9.00). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live online at rivercats.com and on the air on ESPN 1320.
