Riders Strike out 12 Hooks But Drop Series Opener 5-1

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (June 6, 2017) - Despite striking out 12 Corpus Christi batters, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, dropped a 5-1 contest to the Hooks in the series opener Tuesday night at Whataburger Field.
BIG MOMENTS Corpus Christi scored four runs in the second inning, taking a 4-1 lead. Ramon Laureano's two-run double, Jason Martin's run-scoring double, and a fielding error did the damage. Garrett Stubbs delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth, giving the Hooks a 5-1 lead. Frisco pitching struck out 12 Hooks hitters Tuesday. Outside of the second inning, Riders pitchers allowed one run on three hits. The Riders scored on a Hooks fielding error in the top of the first inning to snag a 1-0 advantage. KEY RIDERS PERFORMERS
The Riders stranded seven on the bases, going 0-10 with runners in scoring position. Ariel Jurado struck out a Double-A high eight batters over 4 1/3 innings, the most since May 22, 2016 against Advanced-A Lancaster.
Brady Feigl struck out two in a scoreless seventh inning. Six of his eight outs with the Riders have been recorded on strikeouts, and he has worked 12 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to his time with Advanced-A Down East.
