Riders Soar from Behind for 8-7 Win over Hooks

June 24, 2016 - Texas League (TL1) - Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - Once down 5-1, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, stormed back to knock off the Corpus Christi Hooks 8-7 in front of 9,792 fans on Friday's "Salute to Top Gun Night" at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The RoughRiders (40-33 overall, 2-2 second half) took the lead with a four-run seventh against reliever Eric Peterson (3-2). With one across in already in the inning and the bases loaded, Alex Burg cleared them with a three-run double to right-center field to put Frisco ahead 8-6. Burg finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and tied a career-high with four RBI Friday night.

Frank Lopez (4-1) helped keep the Riders in the game Friday, working 4 1/3 strong innings to quiet the Hooks and keep the Riders within reach. Working in relief of starter Connor Sadzeck, Lopez allowed two runs on six hits in his time on the mound, striking out four opposite one walk. Jose Valdespina worked the final two innings to earn his third save of the season.

The RoughRiders had to play from behind after Sadzeck struggled over his 2 2/3 innings of work. Sadzeck allowed all four of his runs in the third, putting the Riders behind 4-1. Derek Fisher capped the big inning with a solo home run, one of three homers hit by the Hooks. Corpus Christi extended the lead to 5-1 on a solo shot from Roberto Pena in the fourth, and Conrad Gregor pulled the Hooks within a run with his solo homer in the eighth.

Before the big seventh inning, the Riders chipped away the deficit with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Joe Jackson finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles in the middle innings, and Kellin Deglan knocked in a run as well to keep the Riders within striking distance.

The four-game series against Corpus Christi continues Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Riders all-star Victor Payano (5-4, 3.57 ERA) is set to battle highly-rated Astros prospect Francis Martes (4-2, 4.12 ERA). Fans can watch the game on MiLB.tv (subscription required) or listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
