Frisco RoughRiders News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS - Frank Lopez pitched a season-high 6 2/3 innings and left with the lead, but the Corpus Christi Hooks rallied to defeat the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, 4-2 in the series opener Wednesday night at Whataburger Field.

Lopez (4-4) tossed five consecutive scoreless frames after giving up a solo home run to Jack Mayfield in the first inning. The Hooks had baserunners in every inning, but the Riders' southpaw worked around it and preserved the 2-1 lead. Lopez departed with two runners on base and two outs in the seventh.

After Lopez exited the game, James Ramsay worked a walk against reliever Joe Filomeno to load the bases for Corpus Christi (58-31, 11-8). Mayfield hit a double that dropped into right field and drove in three runs to give the Hooks a 4-2 lead, their first advantage since the second inning.

Like Mayfield, who drove in all four runs for Corpus Christi, Alex Burg plated both runs for the Riders. Burg hit his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot to begin the second inning, and an RBI single to give Frisco a 2-1 lead in the third.

Corpus Christi has won seven of the last eight games against the Riders. In addition, the Hooks have won the last six contests between the two teams at Whataburger Field.

The Riders continue their four-game road series against Corpus Christi Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Connor Sadzeck (8-2, 3.19 ERA) takes the mound against Francis Martes (5-3, 3.88 ERA). Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.

The RoughRiders return home Sunday, July 17 for a four-game series against the San Antonio Missions at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The four-game series features Christmas in July on Sunday.
