Riders Finish First Half with Comeback Win over Midland

June 20, 2016 - Texas League (TL1) - Frisco RoughRiders News Release

MIDLAND, TEXAS - Left-handed pitcher Victor Payano led the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, to a 3-2 win over the Midland RockHounds in the final game of the first half Monday night at Security Bank Ballpark.

Payano (5-4) went 6 1/3 innings and struck out seven batters in his first win since May 8, also against Midland. He gave up eight hits, but held the RockHounds (33-37) to just two runs, both driven in by J.P. Sportman in the third and fifth innings. It was Payano's fourth quality start of the season, which is the second highest total on the team.

After going scoreless through the first five frames against Corey Walter, the RoughRiders (38-31) totaled three runs against reliever Kris Hall (0-2). Andy Ibanez hit a two-run homer, his second with the Riders and ninth of the season, to tie the game 2-2 in the sixth. Alberto Triunfel gave Frisco a 3-2 lead on a two-out RBI double in the seventh.

Jose Valdespina kept the RockHounds off the board for the remainder of the game. Valdespina retired all eight batters he faced, including one strikeout, to earn his second save of the season.

The RoughRiders continue their four-game road series with the first game of the second half Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against the RockHounds. Right-handed pitcher Reed Garrett (2-1, 4.74 ERA) is scheduled to start for Frisco against righty James Naile (0-1, 6.00 ERA). Fans can listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 5:55 p.m.
