Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Moosic, PA- A pair of seventh-inning throwing errors doomed the Pawtucket Red Sox and helped the Scranton RailRiders to a 7-4 win on Friday night in Moosic, PA. The PawSox had surged to an early, 3-0 lead against Scranton starter Luis Severino and again took a 4-3 advantage on Rusney Castillo's second hit before the defensive miscues allowed the Riders to even the four-game series at a game apiece.

PawSox starter Sean O'Sullivan took an encouraging step forward and offered five strong innings. In line for the win when he departed, O'Sullivan fanned four and walked only one.

Severino looked unhittable early; he fanned five in the first two innings, in which he allowed only an infield single to Brennan Boesch.

In the third, the PawSox got to the righthander Severino, who made his first start since he was optioned back from the Yankees. Chris Dominguez led off the frame with a hit to centerfield and was moved to second on a beautiful bunt from Jose Vinicio. Castillo then smashed a line drive to left field that pushed Dominguez to third. After Marco Hernandez popped out to shortstop, Major-League-rehabber Chris Young smoked a single in center to break the scoreless tie.

Pawtucket then opened the fourth inning with three consecutive singles from Boesch, Bryce Brentz and Dan Butler. With one out, Jose Vinicio hit a one-hopper to Scranton shortstop Pete Kozma. Kozma flipped to second baseman Donavan Solano, whose hurried throw to first skipped past first baseman Cito Culver. On Vinicio's hit and Solano's error, the PawSox took a 3-0 lead.

The 'Riders did their first damage against O'Sullivan in the fourth. An infield single by Rob Refsnyder became a run when Solano and Jake Cave laced one-out singles.

In the fifth, Scraton's newest prospect tied the game. Clint Frazier - recently acquired from Cleveland for Andrew Miller - crushed a two-run homer to left-centerfield and scored Mason Williams, who had lined a hit to right.

Castillo continued his surge in the sixth and put the PawSox back in front. After Butler led off with a double, Castillo chased Severino when he capped a protracted at-bat with a line drive to left field that scored Butler and made it a 4-3 game.

O'Sullivan was lifted for William Cuevas in the sixth. Cuevas worked around a one-out hit to retire the RailRiders.

Scranton catcher Eddy Rodriguez opened the bottom of the seventh with a high chopper up the middle. Vinicio made a wonderful bare-handed stab in front of the second-base bag, but his throw to first sailed past Chris Marrero and moved Rodriguez to second. Mason Williams then bunted back to Cuevas, who looked to third before throwing wildly past first base; on the errant toss, Rodriguez scored and Williams moved all the way to third base. Ben Gamel then doubled to right to score Williams and push Scranton ahead for good.

Williams then put the game out of reach in the eighth with a two-run triple to right field.

Giovanny Gallegos and Jonathan Holder limited the PawSox to just one hit in 2.1 innings of dominant relief. The pair of right-handers fanned six and put the finishing touches on the 'Riders comeback win.

The PawSox continue their four-game series with the RailRiders tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. Pawtucket lefthander Henry Owens (8-6, 3.70) is scheduled to make the start against Scranton lefty Jordan Montgomery (2-1, 0.98). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the PawSox radio network follows PawSox Insider, which begins at 5:35 p.m.

Pawtucket returns home for a four-game homestand on Monday. Good seats for those contests against the Syracuse Chiefs and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office; call (401) 724-7300 or visit pawsox.com to get your tickets today.
