Richmond Returns in 3-2 Fisher Cats Loss

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Scott Richmond threw five innings of one-hit ball, and New Hampshire out-hit New Britain 11-4, including three base-knocks by Adeiny Hechavarria (3 for 5), but it was not enough as the Fisher Cats fell to the Rock Cats 3-2 Saturday in front of 7,292 at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
Eric Thames (2 for 4) went deep for the second straight night to give the Fisher Cats (71-54) the early 1-0 lead. In the top of the first, Thames connected on a 0-1 offering over the right-field fence for his 24th home run of the season, putting him into second position in the Eastern League in that category, while his 91st RBI gave him sole possession of first place.
After New Hampshire starter Richmond retired the first 11 New Britain batters in a row, including striking out five in that span, Evan Bigley tied the game up with one swing of the bat. His shot to left field was his second of the season to even the game at one a piece.
Richmond, who was making his first start in Manchester since May 16, 2008, started where Randy Boone left off for New Hampshire on Friday. Together the duo retired 36 consecutive New Britain batters. The former Major Leaguer went five innings, receiving the no-decision after giving up one run on one hit while striking out six and walking none.
The Fisher Cats regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Adam Loewen singled with two outs, stole second and came around on a Matt Liuzza RBI base knock to make it 2-1.
The advantage changed sides in the top of the sixth as New Britain (38-88) got to the bullpen.for two runs to give them the 3-2 edge. Number nine hitter Yancarlos Ortiz started the frame with a walk, scored on a double down the left field line by Estarlin De Los Santos, who came home via a sacrifice fly by Bigley.
Fisher Cats reliever B.J. Lamura (5-5) received the loss, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks. Mike McCardell (2-12) earned the win for the Rock Cats, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up one run on five hits. Billy Bullock closed the door, picking up his 11th save by throwing a scoreless ninth.
The home stand concludes with a Sunday 1:35 p.m. matinee against New Britain at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Fisher Cats ace and Eastern League wins leader Kyle Drabek (13-9) gets the ball, and will be opposed by Rock Cats southpaw Tyler Robertson (3-11).
