RHP Brummett and INF Triunfel Join Isotopes

April 3, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Right-handed pitcher Tyson Brummett and infielder Carlos Triunfel will join the Albuquerque Isotopes today, April 3. Brummett was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga, while Triunfel was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers outright from Seattle. In corresponding moves, right-handed pitcher Jose Dominguez has been recalled by the Los Angeles Dodgers and infielder Ryan Adams has been sent to Chattanooga.

Brummett spent the 2013 season almost exclusively with Double-A New Hampshire and made a single start for Triple-A Buffalo in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. The 29-year-old saw action in 34 combined games, including 10 starts. He recorded two saves and struck out 77 battersagainst only 34 walks in 87.2 innings pitched.

Originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies out of UCLA, Brummett made his Major League debut in the last game of the 2012 season on Oct. 3. After entering the game with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning in relief of Jonathan Papelbon, he allowed back-to-back singles to the first two batters he faced before striking out Jesus Flores and Chad Tracy to escape the jam.

Triunfel spent 2013 splitting time between the Mariners and Triple-A Tacoma in Seattle's organization. An athletic infielder with a strong arm, the 24-year-oldinfielder has shown the versatility to play shortstop, second base and third base and has played all three positions in both the Majors and minors. In his seventh minor league seasons, Triunfel has posted a .276 batting average.

Seattle originally signed Triunfel as a non-drafted free agent in 2006 and he made his Major League debut pinch hitting against Oakland Sept. 7, 2012. His first career-hit came six days later on Sept. 13, a double off Aaron Loup at Toronto.

The Isotopes open the season tonight with a four-game series in Tacoma against the Rainiers. RHP Stephen Fife is slated to take the hill for Albuquerque. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 pm MT. Listen to all of the action as Josh Suchon has the call on 610AM. Following another four-game set in Reno, the Isotopes return to Albuquerque for their home opener April 11, also against the Rainiers.
