The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (10,5,9) host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (11,7,7) on Saturday, August 27 at the Practice Fields at H-E-B Park. The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. The Toros seek to repeat results since the Toros defeated Colorado Springs on the road last week 2-0.
The Toros took off to a fast start in last week's matchup against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. Rio Grande Valley's Jose Escalante assisted Ruben Luna who turned around and placed the ball in the lower left corner to give the Toros the lead in the game. RGV was forced to substitute the club's goalkeeper in the 19th minute. Tyler Deric had to be replaced after an elbow injury and Callum Irving came on for the Toros to defend the goal. Colorado Springs Switchbacks were left with 10 men in the 45th minute after Rony Arguetta received a red card.
Dzenan Catic came on for Rio Grande Valley the 86th minute and had immediate impact in the game. Three minutes later, Catic scored the second goal of the match and secured the 2-0 win for the Toros. Callum Irving finished the day with six saves in his tally. The Toros extended their streak to eight consecutive games without conceding a goal. The 720 minutes without conceding a goal are now a USL record.
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC had a midweek game. They faced OKC Energy FC and won 2-0. Miguel Gonzalez gave Colorado Springs the lead in the 30th minute. That was Gonzalez's sixth goal of the season. Martin Maybin scored in the 90th minute for Switchbacks FC to get the win.
The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros will hit the road after Saturday's game. Toros will be facing Swope Park Rangers on September 3 and the game is set for 7:30p.m. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC will be hosting LA Galaxy II. That match will also be September 3.
