The Revs avoid a sweep with the win and will return home to kick off a seven-game homestand beginning Monday night.

York led 4-3 until the Skeeters scored twice in the seventh and eighth innings to storm ahead, but it was the Revs who would enjoy the last laugh thanks to the epic ninth inning rally.

Trailing 7-4 and facing Skeeters closer Derrick Loop who entered Sunday's game with a 0.96 ERA, the makings of the comeback took shape as Ryde Rodriguez worked a leadoff walk. Jared Mitchell then walked with one out, and Brandon Chaves punched a single up the middle to load the bases. Joel Guzman bounced into a fielder's choice at third base, but Josh Prince's attempt at a game-ending double play turn sailed into the Sugar Land dugout with two runs scoring on the play, bringing York within 7-6. Guzman picked up his league-leading 60th RBI and gave way to pinch-runner Travis Witherspoon at second. Andres Perez then chopped a potential game-ending grounder to short, but as Witherspoon hurdled the ball while racing in front of Beamer Weems, the shortstop's throw was high, allowing Perez to reach on the error. With runners at the corners, Kevin Rivers battled and smacked a 2-2 pitch up the middle for the game-tying RBI single, deadlocking things at 7-7. After 26 pitches, Loop was lifted in favor of fellow southpaw Dan Runzler, who surrendered a go-ahead RBI single to Bryan Pounds, smashed past third to give York an 8-7 lead. A pair of wild pitches would bring Rivers home, while a third wild pitch on ball four to Michael Rockett also plated Pounds. Rodriguez reached for the second time in the inning on a single to left-center, and with runners at the corners, Salvador Paniagua sliced an RBI single into right for the franchise record-tying seventh run of the ninth inning.

Ricardo Gomez closed it out with a scoreless bottom of the ninth, sealing the Revs' 28th comeback win of the season and one of the most memorable to date.

The game was back and forth throughout. After being held to just one run over the first two games of the series, the Revs jumped out to a quick first inning lead as Mitchell opened the game with a first-pitch single to left, and Chaves doubled to left-center to give York a run two batters into the contest. Guzman reached on an infield single and Perez added an RBI single for a 2-0 lead in the first as the first four York batters all hit safely.

Sugar Land got on the board with a two-out RBI single by Ricky Hague in the home first, while Jeremy Barfield led off the bottom of the second with a homer to left and Rene Tosoni added a two-out RBI single to give the home team a 3-2 lead.

Sugar Land righty Jake Hale retired nine straight before Rivers led off the fourth with a double to left. Pounds followed with a single to left, and Rockett drove in Rivers on a base hit to center, tying the game at 3-3. An inning later, Rivers stroked an RBI single through the right side for a 4-3 York lead.

Revs right-hander Tony Pena took a strong outing into the seventh, striking out Prince for the first out. After a walk to Tosoni, Pena was lifted in favor of lefty reliever Scott Rice who induced a potential inning-ending double play ball off the bat of Delwyn Young, but an error by Chaves at short kept the inning alive. Hague followed with a two-run double to deep center, giving Sugar Land a sudden 5-4 advantage.

The Skeeters plated two more in the eighth as Tosoni chopped a grounder that glanced off Rivers' glove at first base with a run scoring on the error. Mitchell's throw from right field sailed past third as Pounds was taken out on a slide by Prince who promptly came home on another error to put the Skeeters on top 7-4.

Sugar Land pitching had retired nine straight York batters to push the game to the ninth, but that streak would end with the huge ninth inning rally.

York righty Michael Click (2-2) picked up the win in relief, allowing the two unearned runs in the eighth.

Loop (1-1) suffered the loss for Sugar Land.

The Revs out-hit the Skeeters 16-13 after being held to just nine combined hits over the first two games of the series. Every starter posted at least one hit, while seven of the nine drove in runs, and eight of the nine positions in the batting order produced a run scored.

Notes: The seven-run ninth ties the largest ninth inning in franchise history, along with a comeback win on May 31 in Bridgeport. The two seven-run ninth innings mark the two biggest innings of the season for the Revolution offense. Pounds delivered the go-ahead hit in each of those frames. The 11 runs ties the most ever by the Revs in a game at Constellation Field (also June 27, 2013 in a 12-11 loss). The 28 comeback wins is now eight shy of tying the club record of 36, set in 2008 and 2014. The Revs nabbed their fourth win of the season when trailing after eight innings, as each of their last two victories have come when trailing heading to the ninth. York snaps a four-game losing streak at Constellation Field. The Revs (8-8, 48-38) pull back within one game of the Skeeters (10-8, 45-43) for first place in the Freedom Division's second half. York righty Micah Owings (3-3, 4.12) faces Somerset right-hander Will Oliver (0-1, 3.77) in Monday's series opener against the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. It is Christmas in July at PeoplesBank Park, featuring a Christmas themed jersey auction presented by PeoplesBank and a Teddy Bear Toss benefiting Toys for Tots. Fans who bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office get discounted tickets to the game. Tickets are also on sale at YorkRevolution.com and (717) 801-HITS.
