September 16, 2012 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution sent out the home portion of their 2012 regular season schedule with a 2-0 victory over the Somerset Patriots in front of 5,281 fans on Fan Appreciation Day at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon, officially clinching a third consecutive postseason berth in the process. York finishes the home slate with a season-high-tying six straight home victories, and a 42-28 overall record at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The win capped a four-game sweep of the Patriots, as the Revs will now travel to Sugar Land to open a six-game series on Tuesday night to close out the regular season, before returning home for Game 3 of the Freedom Division Championship Series against the rival Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday, September 28.

The postseason berth became official when Lancaster won its game against Southern Maryland, eliminating Sugar Land from contention in the Freedom Division's second half standings.

Revs starter Corey Thurman (14-3) went 7.2 shutout innings to break his own club single season wins record, combining on York's club record 10th shutout victory of the year.

The Revs scored in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to right field by Salomon Manriquez, and again in the sixth inning when Chris Nowak crushed a missile over the Arch Nemesis in left field for his club record 34th home run of the season and 21st at home. He has now hit the most home runs by any Atlantic League player since the 2005 season.

Reliever R.J. Rodriguez struck out Johnny Tucker for the final out in the top of the eighth, and Mike Benacka earned his first save with a perfect ninth.

The Revs improve to 75-59 with the win, adding to their team record for victories in a season, while climbing to a season-best 16 games over .500. York also finishes the regular season series a club-best 14-6 against Somerset, 9-1 at home.

The Revs have won 14 of their last 18 overall, and 15 of their last 18 at home.

Sunday's game also marked the final regular season home game for retiring Revs field manager Andy Etchebarren, who was honored during a pregame ceremony, which included the announcement that the ballclub will retire his number 8 jersey.

York will open the final regular season series of the year against the Skeeters in Sugar Land, TX on Tuesday night at 8:05 p.m. ET. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (YorkRevs) beginning at 7:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
