Sacramento Republic FC News Release

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC will continue their run in the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when they host Real Salt Lake (MLS) in a Fourth Round match on Wednesday, June 14 at Papa Murphy's Park. Kickoff is 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale on Friday, June 2 at 10 a.m. on Ticketmaster.com.

Republic FC advanced to the Fourth Round with a 2-0 victory over Reno 1868 FC (USL) on Wednesday, May 31. Republic FC have advanced to the Fourth Round in three of the four years they have competed in the U.S. Open Cup. They have never advanced past the Fourth Round, losing in 2014 and 2015 to the San Jose Earthquakes (MLS). The Fourth Round match is included in the 2017 Republic FC season ticket package.

Real Salt Lake, and the other 18 U.S.-based MLS clubs, enter the tournament in the Fourth Round. RSL advanced to the Round of 16 in 2016 before eventually falling to Seattle Sounders FC in penalties. RSL were the 2013 U.S. Open Cup runner-up.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the U.S. and the world's third-longest-running open soccer tournament. Entering its 104th year of competition, this year's U.S. Open Cup features a record 99 teams participating in the tiered-bracket and single-game knockout tournament. 18 USL, 6 NASL and 19 MLS teams join 56 lower division teams in the tournament. The last non-MLS club to win the U.S. Open Cup was the Rochester Rhinos in 1999.

The winning team of the U.S. Open Cup will receive a berth in the CONCACAF Champions League for the next season, have their name engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy and receive a cash prize. FC Dallas (MLS) are the defending U.S. Open Cup champions.
