Reno Rallies Late For 6-2 Win Over Fresno
April 25, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
FRESNO, Calif.-Aces starter Kyler Newby held Fresno to just two runs Monday night, and the Reno offense scored four times over the seventh and eighth innings to capture a 6-2 win over the Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park.
With the game knotted at 2-2 in the seventh, Collin Cowgill hit a bases-loaded double that plated two runs and gave Reno a lead it would not let slip away.
Cowgill recorded his fourth-straight multi-hit effort with a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Wily Mo Peña returned the Aces lineup and extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a two-run double in the third, and Cody Ransom doubled, scored, drove in a run and collected a stolen base for Reno.
Newby did not figure into the decision, but scattered two runs on four hits over 5.2 innings of work. Daniel Stange (1-0) earned his first win of the season with a scoreless frame before Jordan Norberto and Rafael Rodriguez held Fresno scoreless over the game's final 2.1 innings.
Grizzlies starter Doug Mathis allowed two unearned runs with seven strikeouts over six innings of work. Henry Sosa (2-1) took the loss after coming on in the seventh and surrendering Cowgill's go-ahead double.
The series finale between the Aces and Grizzlies is set for Tuesday night at Chukchansi Park. LHP Zach Kroenke (2-0, 5.09 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, and the Grizzlies will counter with RHP Andrew Kown (2-1, 3.18 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT and all the action can be heard live in Reno on Fox Sports Radio 630 AM or online at RenoAces.com.
