Tacoma Rainiers News Release

RENO, Nevada. - The Tacoma Rainiers (75-57) let an early lead slip away and ultimately fell to the Reno Aces (71-62) by a final score of 11-5 on Thursday night at Greater Nevada Field.

First baseman Dan Vogelbach finished the night going 3-for-4 for the Rainiers, logging a double and driving in three runs. Second baseman Daniel Robertson (2x4) scored three times while extending his hitting streak to eight games.

Tacoma jumped on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the opening frame. Robertson and Vogelbach led off the game with back-to-back singles, and following a double play grounder from right fielder Stefen Romero, designated hitter Dae-Ho Lee roped an RBI single into center to give Tacoma a 1-0 lead.

An RBI single from Strausborger and a two-run double off the bat of Vogelbach extended the Rainiers lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning.

In similar fashion to the previous night, Reno would rally for 10 runs over the next four innings to open up a significant lead over the visiting Rainiers. Two runs in the bottom of the fifth capped the rally and put the Aces on top, 10-4.

The Rainiers chipped into the Aces lead with a run in the top of the eighth inning - making the score 10-5 - only to surrender another run in the bottom of the frame, pushing Reno's lead back out to six runs at 11-5.

Starting pitcher Sam Gaviglio (3-2) worked 5.0 innings for Tacoma, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits while issuing no walks and striking out seven.

Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte worked the final 3.0 innings out of the Rainiers bullpen, tallying seven strikeouts while allowing one run on three hits.

The Rainiers winningest pitcher since 2006, right-hander Joe Wieland (12-5, 5.25) will take the mound for Tacoma as they continue their series in Reno tomorrow, Friday, August 26. The Aces are expected to turn to right-hander Billy Buckner (0-0, 9.00). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
