Renegades Give Up 18 Hits in 13-2 Loss to Aberdeen

FISHKILL, N.Y. (July 26, 2009) - The Renegades fell victim to the Aberdeen IronBirds' offense dropping the finale of the four-game series, 13-2, Sunday at Dutchess Stadium in front of 4,623 fans. The 13 runs scored by the IronBirds tied the most runs allowed by the Renegades this season. The Renegades gave up a 13 spot to the Brooklyn Cyclones at KeySpan Park on June 28.

The Renegades pitching staff took a beating, needing six pitchers to get through the game. Reliever Angel Chapa was tagged for the loss after he allowed two runs to score on just two hits. Aberdeen was able to notch 18 hits off of the Renegades six pitchers, which is the most hits allowed by the Renegades this season. On July 11 the Renegades gave up 16 hits to the IronBirds but still managed to end up on top, winning 14-10.

Renegades shortstop Tyler Bortnick provided the Renegades with the only offense they would get in the game. Bortnick went 2-for-4 on the night with two doubles and recorded the Renegades only two runs on the night.

The Renegades saw their only lead of the game after they plated two runs in the bottom of the third. With two outs and runners on first on second Bortnick hit his second double of the night to plate the Renegades only two runs of the game and bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the Renegades.

The Renegades lead was short lived as the IronBirds plated four runs in the sixth to take the lead for good. Aberdeen didn't stop there as they plated seven more runs in the visiting half of the ninth to bring the score to its final 13-2.

Hunter Hill came into the game to start the ninth for his first outing at Dutchess Stadium. Hill was tagged for six runs on four hits and did not record an out.

The Renegades take on the Staten Island Yankees tomorrow at Dutchess Stadium for the first game of a home-road two-game series. Monday night at Dutchess Stadium is Salute to Obscure Sports.
