Reign Topped By Wranglers, 2-1
November 1, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL) - Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings, fell to the Las Vegas Wranglers, 2-1, before a crowd of 4,767 on Sunday evening at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
Mike Zacharias was between the pipes for his second consecutive game after coming up with a shutout and his first win on Saturday night against the Condors. Zacharias came up with several big saves for Ontario as soon as the puck dropped at center ice and kept the pucks out of the net until 5:02 in the third period, when defenseman Robbie Bina threw a slap shot over the goal line during a five-on-three power play.
Las Vegas' Michael Ouzas managed to keep the Reign off of the scoreboard for just over 49 minutes before defenseman David Walker netted his first goal of the season while the Reign was on the penalty kill after an Andrew Martens slashing minor. Center Jon Francisco snapped a pass over to Walker, who flipped it up and over Ouzas and into the net to give the Reign the equalizer and their first shorthanded goal of the year.
Just over a minute later, the Wranglers netted the go-ahead goal and center Chris Neiszner notched his first goal of the season when a scramble ensued in the crease and the puck sailed over Zacharias who was down on the ice after making the save on a previous shot.
Las Vegas took the win in the match with a final score of Wranglers 2, Reign 1.
Three stars: 1. LV - Chris Neiszner 2. ONT - David Walker 3. LV - Robbie Bina
Notes: - David Walker is currently on a three-game point streak (1g, 2a) (10/30/09 - 11/01/09); Walker also netted his first goal of the season in tonight's match - Mike Zacharias made 24 saves on 26 shots in the match
