Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (16-6-1-0), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, earned their first victory over the Idaho Steelheads (16-5-1-2) this season with a 5-4 overtime win before 5,093 on Sunday afternoon.

The game started out similar to last night's match against the Steelheads with Idaho scoring first. This time the Steelheads waited until about halfway through the first period before finding the back of the Reign net. Gord Baldwin fired a shot from the point through traffic to give the Steelheads the lead. Justin Dowling and Matt Case assisted the goal. The Reign tied it up at 16:23. Vincent LoVerde moved the puck up to Dan DaSilva along the right-side board who then sent an across-ice pass to Derek Couture who timed his shot perfectly to get it past Josh Robinson's blocker. Idaho would light the lamp again with just 14 seconds left in the period; Sam Carrick scored on a give-and-go play with David de Kastrozza.

The Reign were able to convert on two power-play opportunities in the second while holding the Steelheads scoreless through the frame. DaSilva earned his second point of the game with a redirection on Chris Huxley's shot from the blue line. LoVerde had the other helper on the equalizing, power-play goal. Just 15 seconds later, C.J. Stretch earned his 100th Reign point with a power-play goal. Stretch stickhandled his way through the Idaho defense, hesitated for a moment as a Steelheads defender slid in front of him missing a blocking chance. He deked Robinson out and slipped it through from a tough right angle.

Idaho opened the scoring in the third stanza with a goal by Austin Smith. Dowling won the faceoff and sent it back to Smith who fired a laser from the point to tie the game at three. DaSilva came up big for the Reign to post the team's fourth tally at 10:16. The right winger skated the puck around the right circle and sent a hard wristshot past Robinson for his second power-play goal of the game. Derek Couture and Colton Yellow Horn assisted. When the game seemed to be over the Steelheads scored an equalizer with just 18 seconds left in regulation. Smith found an open space on JF Berube's glove side for his second of the game and forced an extra period.

Just 1:10 into the over time frame, Mario Lamoureux came in clutch for the Reign with his second game-winning goal of the season.

Berube extended his unbeaten streak to four games stopping 23 of 27 shots. Robinson's seven game win streak was snapped as he allowed five goals on 23 shots.

2. ONT - Dan DaSilva
