Seattle Reign FC News Release

SEATTLE - Seattle Reign FC will play its annual Community Shield Match on Saturday, April 9 against University of Washington at Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m. PT.

The match will be Reign FC's first home game of 2016 and the last of their pre-season contests. Over six thousand tickets were distributed for the match; no tickets will be available at the door.

This year's Community Shield Match will benefit the athletic programs of Seattle Public Schools.

Reign FC fans attending the match are encouraged to donate to a GoFundMe campaign which aims to raise $10,000. The donations will offset costs for student athletes, including transportation and equipment expenses. Those wishing to donate may do so at:

Last week, Reign FC came out on top in a three-match tournament hosted by the Portland Thorns. Reign FC beat Portland Thorns FC (1-2-0) in a 2-0 shutout on March 27th and then defeated Houston Dash (2-1-0) with another 2-0 clean sheet on March 30th. The team finished out the tournament on Saturday, April 2nd, by besting Oregon State University (0-3-0) 2-1.

Head Coach Laura Harvey has used the pre-season as an opportunity to mix up the starting 11 and allow the team's 2016 NWSL College Draft Picks and non-roster invitees some time on the pitch.

"We're in a position where we want to challenge the players and push them on," said Harvey after Saturday's match. "We tried that again today by giving a few younger players an opportunity to shine."

Forward Dani Foxhoven, who played with Reign FC for the past two seasons and is participating in pre-season training as a non-roster invitee, saw that opportunity in the second minute of last Saturday's match against OSU, when she headed in a goal during a melee at the mouth of the goal.

Defender Michelle Cruz doubled the lead in the 29th minute when she tapped the ball into the net after another scramble in the box.

Though OSU's Nikki Faris got a tricky header past goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer in the 61st minute, Kopmeyer locked in four saves after starting both Saturday's match and the March 30 contest against Houston. Hope Solo played the full 90 on March 27 against Portland and is currently on the east coast with the U.S. Women's National Team for their match against Colombia on Saturday.

The University of Washington went 12-7-2 in their 2015 season, scoring 29 goals off 128 shots on goal. The Huskies are led by Head Coach Lesle Gallimore, who will also be returning to her role as the color analyst for Reign FC broadcasts in 2016.

Reign FC will kick off its fourth NWSL season on April 17th when they go up against Sky Blue FC at 4 p.m. PT at Memorial Stadium. Tickets prices begin at $18 and are available at reignfc.com/tickets
