Reign Cruise Past Gulls on Military Appreciation Night

Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign (35-19-10-0) completed a weekend sweep of the San Diego Gulls (40-20-3-2) with a 3-1 victory on Military Appreciation Night at Citizens Business Bank Arena Saturday evening. Forward Brett Sutter scored a goal and an assist.
The Reign opened the scoring midway through the first period when defenseman Vincent LoVerde blasted in his ninth goal of the season off the left-wing point and between the lefts of Gulls netminder Dustin Tokarski (L, 23 saves on 25 shots). Defenseman Damir Sharipzianov and forward Joel Lowry picked up assists.
Early in the second period, the Gulls responded with forward Austin Ortega's second goal of the season in just his fourth professional game. Ortega deflected a Nate Guenin drive past the glove of Reign goaltender Jack Campbell (W, 27 saves on 28 shots).
Defenseman Zac Leslie reclaimed the lead for Ontario early in the third period, rifling a shot through a screen at 4:01. Forwards Brett Sutter and Patrick Bjorkstrand added assists. Sutter sealed the victory with an empty-net tally at 19:09. The Reign finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play while the Gulls went for-for-5.
