Reign and Gulls Close Three-Game Series
November 13, 2017 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), take on the San Diego Gulls tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Valley View Casino Center. Tonight is the third of 12 meetings between the two teams.
SoCal Series Heats Up:
The Reign and Gulls collided in the first two games on the SoCal Series last weekend with the Reign earning a 1-0-0-1 weekend record. Goaltender Cal Petersen made 27 saves for Ontario last Friday to pick up his first pro win and shutout and forward Philippe Maillet scored the game-winning goal on the power play in the first period for a 1-0 win. Forward Michael Mersch netted a goal and an assist on Saturday, but the Gulls fought back for a 4-3 shootout victory.
What A Combo:
The grouping of T.J. Hensick (four assists over last three games), Michael Mersch (three goals and four assists over last five games) and Jonny Brodzinski (three goals, four assists over last five games) has provided six goals and 12 assists over the last five games for the Reign.
Calm Before the Storm:
Tonight's contest is the Reign's lone match up over a 13-day period before playing five games over the last two weeks of November and 14 games in December.
I've Got the Power:
The Reign power play has been operating at 23.1 percent (six-for-26) over the last five games.
Trending Upward:
The Reign enter tonight's contest on a season-high four-game point streak (3-0-0-1).
Upcoming Milestones:
Defenseman Alex Lintuniemi is eight games away from playing in 100 pro contests
Forward Brett Sutter is two games from 750 pro, 12 games from 700 AHL games played and 10 points from 300 career AHL points. Forward Jamie Devane is three games away from 250 pro games played. Forward Michael Mersch is seven games away from 200 AHL contests played.
Scouting the Gulls:
Since defeating the Reign in the shootout last Saturday, the Gulls have dropped their last two contests including a 6-2 loss to Texas on Wednesday and a 6-3 loss last night to the Stockton Heat. Forward Kevin Roy, who leads the Gulls against the Reign with three points (three assists), was recalled to Anaheim on Thursday.
