Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Moose Jaw, SK - The Moose Jaw Warriors scored three goals in the first period as they went on to defeat the Prince Albert Raiders 4-1 on Wednesday night at Mosaic Place.
It was a must-win game for Moose Jaw to begin the final week of the WHL regular season. A victory by Prince Albert would have secured the Raiders with home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Warriors managed to get a jump on the Raiders with a goal six minutes into the game and two more before the end of the opening frame. Prince Albert got stronger as the game went on, but they could not overcome the early deficit.
Reid Gardiner collected the only goal of the evening for the Raiders as he reached the 40-goal plateau for the first time in his career.
The Warriors were led offensively by Dryden Hunt who recorded a goal and one assist for two points. Jayden Halbgewachs, Tanner Jeannot, and Brayden Point also scored goals for the home team.
Prince Albert received a 31-save performance from Rylan Parenteau on 35 shots. Zach Sawchenko turned away 23 of 24 attempts in the Moose Jaw net.
The Warriors outshot the Raiders 35-24. Prince Albert was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Moose Jaw went 1-for-2.
The Raiders now sit with a 37-25-7-1 record. The Warriors move within three points of second place in the East Division with a 35-27-7-2 record.
The Raiders will honour the Canadian Armed Forces as part of a Military Appreciation Night on Friday, March 18 in their final home game of the regular season. As part of the tribute, the Raiders will wear limited edition camouflage jerseys that are available through an online auction and at the game. One lucky fan will also win a Can-Am ATV or Ski-Doo snowmobile from Pines Power Sports Marine! For ticket information, visit the Raider Office at the Art Hauser Centre or call 306-764-GAME.
